What is San José Clean Energy's battery rebate?

San José Clean Energy's new EcoHome Rebate program offers qualifying homeowners incentives for battery storage.

If you are a San José Clean Energy customer and own your home, you qualify for a battery incentive.

Depending on your eligibility, you can receive up to $10,400 off their battery system.

Note: Customers must apply with SJCE to reserve rebate funding before proceeding with installation.

Why is San José Clean Energy funding this rebate?
The biggest reason is that California is facing an energy crisis. People need more and more electricity to cool their homes, run appliances, and power their cars. Demand is outpacing supply, and the costs of making necessary infrastructure upgrades (and funding new generation) are staggering. 
 

To meet demand quickly and secure safe, reliable power for Californians, utilities are looking for ways to incentivize residential battery storage.

Batteries keep costs down, use renewable energy, and respond quickly to spikes in demand at the local level. Together they act as a virtual power plant (or VPP), storing and distributing energy as needed.

If you are approved for an EcoHome rebate, the only requirement is for your battery to help the grid when it's stressed, which is also known as participating in demand response.

The rest of the time, your battery simples charges with energy from the grid (or solar) to use later, when rates are most expensive. 

What is Haven's role in all of this?

How it works:

  • Schedule a meeting so we can verify your eligibility to move forward. We will also review your financing options.
  • We have a consultation on the phone so we can understand and assess your electric setup and energy usage.
  • We send you a proposal to review and approve. This includes estimates for how much you'll save on your utility bill and how much backup power (in terms of days) your system will provide in an outage.
  • You apply for your rebate with SCJE: All customers must apply with SJCE to reserve rebate funding before proceeding with installation.
  • We install your system and make sure it meets your energy goals. This includes the steps leading up to your install and everything after: site surveys, permitting, inspection, and interconnection!
  • We provide ongoing support to help you optimize your system and understand its performance. 
What are the benefits of solar + battery?

A battery system can lower your electric bill and protect you against power outages.

Bill savings: During the day, your battery can charge from the grid when rates are low. Then, in the evening when time-of-use rates are priciest (think 4pm to 9pm), you can switch to battery power and save on your bills. 

Got solar? Adding a battery will let you store surplus electricity to use whenever your panels aren't producing or the sun isn't shining. By producing your own energy, you no longer have to pay your utility for it, simple as that. With rates increasing about 10% every year, those are guaranteed savings for your household.

During power outages, your battery will automatically kick in and start powering your home. Most of the time, our homeowners don't notice when this happens. Your home will re-connect to the grid once power has been restored locally.
