What is this rebate?
Meet the SGIP Residential Solar & Storage Equity Program, a new state rebate funded by the California Public Utility Commission which provides up to $50,000 per solar + battery system for low-income qualifying households.
Why is California funding solar + battery backup?
California wants people to use clean energy resources (like solar + battery storage) because they can improve grid reliability – a big problem for the state. So, they're incentivizing it.
Funds are first-come, first-serve. If you think you qualify, let's talk! Click below to get started on claiming your SGIP rebate.

1. You must own your home (and live in it).
2. You must meet the income requirements. These vary by county and whether your annual household income is 80% (or more) below the median income for your area.
Some homeowners who are enrolled in an Energy Saving Assistance program may qualify for the rebate, but it's not a guarantee:

What does this solar + storage rebate cover?
California's new rebate (officially called the SGIP Residential Solar & Storage Equity Program) provides up to $50,000 per solar and storage system for qualifying homeowners. For most homeowners, this amount will completely cover the cost of a system.
These funds are first-come, first-serve, and we expect they will run out quickly. If you own your home and are enrolled in CARE, FERA, SASH, DAC-SASH or ESA (all qualifying programs) you qualify to receive a rebate.
Who is eligible for this rebate?
There are two requirements to qualify for the SGIP Equity rebate:
- You must own your home.
- You must meet the income requirements. These vary by county and whether your household income is 80% or more below the median income for your area.
If you meet these requirements, you may receive a solar + battery system at no cost to you. This depends, of course, on availability. Being eligible for the SGIP Equity rebate does not guarantee you a system. Funding is first-come, first-serve, and we expect high demand for these systems.
Some homeowners who are enrolled in an Energy Saving Assistance program CARE or FERA may qualify for this rebate, but it is not guaranteed. The SGIP income requirements must still be met.
I think I qualify. How do I apply?
First, fill out the form that's linked on this page. We'll review your information and call you back to confirm your eligibility. If you want to speed up the process, you can book a call with our team for a time that works for your schedule. You'll see a link to do this at the end of the form.
Once we confirm you qualify for the SGIP Equity Rebate, we'll start creating your solar + battery proposal. This will include your estimated monthly bill savings and how much backup time your battery will provide during a power outage.
If everything looks good, you'll approve the proposal and sign your contract. The contract will explicitly state that this is a zero-cost system and you will not owe Haven (or California) anything. No monthly payments. No money down.
We'll then request funding for your system through the state SGIP rebate and install your system at no cost to you.
Will I be guaranteed a system if I qualify?
California's SGIP Residential Solar & Storage Equity program is first-come, first-serve, and we expect funds to run out quickly. That said, Haven will do everything possible to submit your application quickly and give you the best chance of receiving funding.
What is Haven's role in all of this?
Great question. Haven is your partner for getting a solar + battery system through California's SGIP solar and storage equity fund. We are an approved SGIP installer and developer, and are top-rated provider of solar and battery installation services in California.
How it works:
- Fill out the form to confirm your interest in the rebate. We'll need to verify your eligibility to move forward. If you are approved, we submit your application to California to reserve your SGIP funds.
- We have a consultation on the phone so we can understand and assess your electric setup and energy usage.
- We send you a proposal to review and approve. This includes estimates for how much you'll save on your utility bill and how much backup power (in terms of days) your system will provide in an outage.
- We install your system and make sure it meets your energy goals. This includes the steps leading up to your install and everything after: site surveys, permitting, inspection, and interconnection!
- We provide ongoing support to help you optimize your system and understand its performance.
If you're wondering if you can do the above on your own, the technical answer is yes, but it requires a lot of paperwork and a lot of time. You also have to become an SGIP-approved developer. Again, doable, but hard.
What are the benefits of solar + battery backup?
In short, a solar and battery system can lower your electric bill by 90-95% and put an end to power outages.
The longer version: Solar + battery lets you produce and store electricity to use whenever you like. By producing your own energy, you no longer have to pay your utility for it, simple as that. With rates increasing about 10% every year, those are guaranteed savings for your household.
Any extra electricity gets stored in your battery, which you can use to power your home at night or from 4-9 PM when time-of-use rates are most expensive. Batteries also keep your lights on if the power goes out in your area.
Why is California funding this rebate?
As we face rising electricity demand, California is looking for new ways to improve the grid’s reliability.
Solar and battery storage systems can help in a big way but have not been accessible to many families until now.
The California Public Utility Commission's new rebate (the SGIP Residential Solar + Storage Equity Program) allocates a dedicated fund ($280 million) to help people switch to renewable energy. This will help protect the power grid while also giving families a practical tool for lowering bills and securing reliable power.
